This was a great opportunity for you to help our local charities while helping yourself as well. For a measly $5, you could have given them out as stocking stuffers, or used them as a real cheap way to buy yourself back into an ungrateful family.
Numbers are drawn each night in January, so you could be winning 31 times!
(But you probably won't. I'll bet you).
If you procrastinated too long this time, you should probably put this on your calendar for next December so you don't "forget" again.

Charity Award Night

I hope you had the chance to attend our monthly January meeting to watch all the money being given out. As always, the organizations that we donated to were there to update our members on the good work that they had accomplished in 2025, as well as their plans for 2026. It was obvious that the money we saved up last year was going to some wonderful causes.
The upstairs meeting room at Monaghan's Pub was again filled to capacity with us and the representatives of our selected charities. Many of the people couldn't even sit down, but they all stuck it out none the less.
Including the money distributed on this night, our Roost has now given out over $121,000 since our first Charitable Donation Night in 2016. Photos of each donation can be found in the scrolling window on our Home Page.
Without our Roost members and loyal Roost supporters, however, we are nothing. Unlike the government, our Roost can't just print money. We must rely upon your charitable nature to provide us with the means to distribute these funds. Our Roost conducts a number of fund-raising activities each year, but make no mistake, the money being distributed was yours.
On behalf of our entire Roost membership, we thank Monaghan's Pub and all of you for your support. You're the greatest!
Polar Bear Plunge - 2026
Sandy Point State Park

Mother Nature sure gave us a lickin' on that Saturday, but our Ravens Roost 138 Plunge Team kept on tickin' anyway!
One of our plungers actually went to the beach early intent on immersing himself completely in the ice-cold water, but the security guys there told him he would just go in up to his knee.
Bummer!
Oh well.
The "smarter contingent" of the Ravens Roost 138 Plunge Team decided that Mother Nature was NOT going to have her way with us. They created a series of outdoor, bone-chilling events they could complete in while at Monaghan's Pub instead.
They also involved freezing cold (8 degree) temperatures and ice cold water too, just not as much as at Sandy Point Beach. No Speedos or bikinis were involved, but our plungers got more than their share of cold anyway.
Thanks to all those that "plunged" as well as all those who saw fit to donate their hard-earned money to our dedicated plungers.
Money well donated, I assure you.

We had a record number of plungers on our team last year, and we matched that record number again in 2026. Our Plunge Team finished 4th among all Ravens Roost plunge teams, by generating a total of $5,330 for Special Olympics Maryland.

Ravens Roost 138
Bull and Oyster Roast

6 PM - 10 PM
This year's Bull and Oyster Event was another resounding success. For the first time, our Ravens Roost 138 teamed up with another, Ravens Roost 117, to give the public a filled-to-the-brim experience - both with food and with attendees. When the smoke cleared there were more than 240 tickets sold for this event. Our Roost's profit from this event turned out to be just over $2,400. Not bad, huh?
A great time was had by all, I can assure you.
The music was excellent, just as you would expect from Jill black and the Panic Attack.

Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts
Ocean City MD Convention

Party? What party, you say?
Obviously, were talking about the Council's OC Convention. THAT'S the party!
This year's event was themed "Purple Waves and Island Days", and the weather cooperated by providing a great backdrop for this annual event.
It's been reported that the turnout was noticeably greater than it was last year, but unfortunately, that didn't include ANY Ravens, cheerleaders, or even Poe. That sucks, but the Ravens organization has promised to do much better next year.
I can't wait!

The "call to serve" can take many different forms. The one that we're most interested in (at this particular point in time, at least) is stepping up to serve your Ravens Roost.
While rewarding at most levels, holding an office in your Roost can be challenging, frustrating, and occasionally unrewarding at the same time.
Nonetheless, we continue to get members who are willing to put in the time and the effort to serve you, our membership. For that, we thank the in-coming Officers and Directors in advance, and the out-going Officers and Directors for their jobs well done.

RAVENS SCRATCH-OFF TICKET RAFFLE 2026

Was our third time with this fund raiser YOUR BIG WIN?
Maybe, but only if your name is ED!
This year, Ed plunked down his $10 bill hoping that he would win the big prize. As it turned out, he got lucky and had the WINNING TICKET drawn for the 15 SEQUENTIALLY NUMBERED $10 Ravens Scratch-Off tickets.
He probably got some hints on how to do this from Jenny, our 2025 winner.
These Ravens scratch-off tickets offered Ed multiple ways to win some big prizes. In addition to the unknown amount of cash that he has already won just from scratching, these bad boys have a "Second Chance" where he can STILL win that Top Prize of $200,000 or some other nice things.
Fingers crossed for Ed.
Ed's $10 contribution will now be going to one of the great charities that we support.
THAT was our real end game.
Ed's winning ticket was drawn at our Charity Auction on October 29, 2026.

Welcome To YEAR 6!
Year after year, Ravens Roost 138 has been stepping up to meet one of the greatest challenges known to humankind:
COLD FEET!
You know what I'm talking about.
As strange as it may seem to some, the giving of a pair of clean, new socks may be the MOST rewarding thing that we, as a Roost, do. The faces of the grateful recipients this year said it all.
We needed your help again this year to successfully complete this important mission, and you STEPPED UP!
New socks are reportedly THE most requested item at homeless shelters throughout Baltimore.
We were in need of men's, woman's, and unfortunately also children's socks. Any size. Any color. Over the course of this year's campaign, we collected 3 large bags of warm socks to donate.
We delivered these socks to the Children's Hospital in Catonsville, and to the West Side Men's Shelter also in Catonsville.
Our quest is now over for this year, but Socktoberfest 2027 will be here before you know it.
SUGGESTION: Consider buying a pack of socks every month between now and next October. If you can do that, tons of people would be very, very happy.
You would be too.
Fifth Annual
Ravens Roost 138 Tailgate Party

We were hoping for a duplicate of the fantastic 2025 weather for this fun event, but Mother Nature dealt us a slightly worse hand this year.
It was VERY cold at the outset of our Roost tailgate this year. At least in the early morning it was. Shortly, however, the sun came out and it felt a lot more like sweatshirt weather than Arctic coat weather.
Our members trickled in slowly - until the sun showed up. Soon after, we had 28 souls there to celebrate with us what SHOULD have been a decisive Ravens win over the Cleveland team whose name shall remain unspoken.

As has been our custom, there was plenty of free food and drink again this year. Our ravenous Roost members made a pretty good dent in it on Sunday.
As it turned out, the Cornhole Range was closed for upgrades this year.
Hopefully, those will be finished prior to next year's tailgate party.
Speaking of disappointment, TAYLOR SWIFT, who was SCHEDULED to perform at our event this year, was told by her new husband, Travis, that she was NOT ALLOWED to hang out with any Ravens fans.
That scumbag!
It's a GOOD THING that we're not scheduled to play them in a regular season game this year. Maybe they can find some way to make it to the Super Bowl where we will be able to settle this score.
Grilling was again expertly performed by the world-renowned Hull Brothers, Carrroll and Rick. Thankfully, they didn't let their prior engagement at the posh restaurant in Manhattan get in their way, but they DID lose that gig forever as a result of their commitment to you, our Roost members.
If you should see either Carroll or Rick this fall, please thank them for their sacrifice. IF they think you are sincere, they might even be willing to re-up for grilling for us again next year. (Fingers crossed).
Annual Charity Auction

Many Ravens Roost 138 members and some other bar/restaurant patrons contributed items for this auction and/or spent some of their hard-earned cash on the items being auctioned off this year. If you fall into either (or both) of these categories, our entire Roost thanks you.
Even if you had not previously planned to grab some great food and drink at Monaghan 's Pub on this night, many of you did so.
This was the night of our Annual Charity Auction.
Auction items were flying off the shelves, so it's a good thing that many of you were there in person to win some of our great bargains.
Tonight it was also revealed that ED was the winner of those 15 sequentially numbered Ravens scratch-off tickets that we have been raffling off. Congratulations to him as well.
Overall, this auction is typically one of the more lucrative money-making activities that we hold each year, and this year proved to be no different. When the final hammer fell, we had collected another $5,400 to give to our selected charities in January.
Thanks to all of the people and vendors that contributed merchandise for this event, and to the patrons who opened their pocketbooks to make this one great event. You're the best!
Proceeds benefit our local charities.
Marine Toys For Tots Foundation
Holiday Toy Drive
November 1, 2026 - December 4, 2026
Some people put out cookies and milk for Santa. We're going to do a whole lot better than that!
On or about November 1st, a giant Toys For Tots Drop Box will magically appear at Monaghan's Pub.
Initially, it will be empty, but THAT'S where you come in.
Our Roost's goal, as always, is to fill this box to overflowing - not just once but multiple times - with new, unwrapped toys. You know, the GOOD stuff that you would buy for your own children or grandchildren.
There are far too many kids out there that wouldn't get ANYTHING at all for Christmas without the toys collected every year by the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. The problem is that there are way too many kids for the Foundation to provide toys to without YOUR help.
You will be the Santa for children who need love and the knowledge that someone out there cares about them. Now THAT'S love.
Sure. You will be donating toys for kids that you don't even know and who will never know you, but so what? If you NEED someone to know that YOU are the one that helps them, maybe you need to reconsider your reason for donating in the first place.
Every time the Drop Box gets pretty full, our Elves will line up to make a delivery run to Santa's secret Toy Transfer Station where they will be leaving our huge bags of toys with Ms. Claus.
After being cataloged, checked, and sorted by the elves, Santa will be taking over the very complex distribution and delivery activities as only HE, his elves, and his reindeer are equipped to do.
