Charity Award Night - January, 2021

Since we were unable to hold most of our annual fund raising activities in 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, we had to forego our Charity Award night in January 2021.  We hope to be able to get more or less back to "normal" this year, so please stick with us while we work things out.

The primary reason for our existence IS charitable giving, and we really missed not being able to do that last year.

In the meantime, please check out the pics from our last Charity Award Night in January 2020. Most of the organizations to which we donated money were there to receive their checks.  Check them out in the scrolling photo bar above.

Our Roost has donated over $60,000 to date, and we have plans to do a lot more yet.  This money came from a combination of direct donations made by our Roost members, proceeds from our various 50-50 raffles, revenue from our annual Bull and Oyster Roast (coming up again in April), and our very successful annual Charity Auctions held in December.

Thanks to all  of you who helped us accumulate these funds - without you, our Roost would have no reason to exist.

2021 Polar Bear Plunge - January 25, 2021

Thanks to the Covid-19 problem, the fun of actually plunging into the Chesapeake with a couple of hundred of our closest friends wasn't possible this year.  Fortunately, the creativity of humans provided us a way to still generate some money for the Maryland Special Olympics organization.

Roost 138 member Will Latvanas forged ahead with his own personal "Virtual Plunge" performed without benefit of any water this year.  Armed with the money he could gather from his friends, coupled with a nice contribution from our Roost 138 coffers, Will was able to put together a check for well over $1,000 for this worthy cause.

The problem with Will's Virtual Plunge is that nobody gets to see any photographs of people freezing in the ice cold water or running up the beach to the "heated" tent where they can get some hot beverage to drink.  Oh, well.  We can still look back to last year's photos, knowing that we'll get another chance to watch these crazies again in January 2022.

The 8,000+ Special Olympic athletes in Maryland thank those of you that supported Will this year!

Check out the few non-embarrassing photos that we have from January 2020 in the scrolling window on our HOME Page.

Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts Convention 2021 Ocean City, MD
June 3rd - June 6th

The Council took over Ocean City again on June 3rd for three days of crazy fun and games.  Their signature event was a 10 block parade along Baltimore Avenue.  There were plenty of Ravens Roost representatives there - including some from Roost 138.  A great time was had by all.  We can't wait to do it again in 2022.

Fun time photos are pending, so check back soon.

Roost 138 Catonsville Parade Float - 201
Catonsville Parade - July 4, 2021

Roost 138 members again lined the street in downtown Catonsville on this hot summer's day to partake of these local holiday festivities.  Although we didn't have a float to enter this year, the Ravens Roost 138 banner flew proudly and a good time was had by all.

Even if you couldn't make it this year, please put it on your calendar for 2022.  (It's going to be held again on ........... wait for it .......... July 4th.)

And please don't forget that you will need to come out a few weeks early to place your lawn chair or favorite rope out along Frederick Road to "reserve" your spot. This may sound strange to most of you, but it's a "Baltimore thing".

SOCKTOBERFEST 2021

Something was definitely afoot this year, and you all helped make that happen.

There will be far fewer cold feet at local shelters this year because you cared enough to make your new sock donations to the German Children's Hospital, the Baltimore County Westside Men's Shelter, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Day Resource Center.

While we certainly helped alleviate the chronic Cold Feet problem this year, we haven't completely solved it yet.  Remember the month, because we're planning to do it again in SOCKtober2022.

Charity Auction 2021-Nov 9.jpg
Annual Charity Auction Night
November 9, 2021
6:30PM - 11:00PM

Many of our Roost members and their friends joined us at Monaghan's Pub for our Annual Charity Auction Night.  Items up for grabs included restaurant gift cards and crab house certificates,  golf items and passes to 4 different local golf courses, a number of different drink coolers including a "completely stocked" Fireball refrigerator, backpacks, cornhole games, Ravens stadium puzzles, advertising signs for your Man-Cave, tons of umbrellas, great seats to Washington Cap's games, sports memorabilia including signed footballs and baseballs, and much more.  This year we even auctioned off a robot vacuum cleaner (perfect for lazy people like me).

This is usually one of our more  lucrative charitable events of the year and, thanks to those who participated, we did quite well again in 2021.   Overall we collected more than $5,500 from this event.  Thanks "a million" to all those who donated gifts and to those who spent their hard earned money at the auction.  Your money will go to some great local charities.

Normally I would say that if you missed out on any of these great deals, shame on you.  BUT you can still make this right.  The 12 items that remained on the table at the end of this auction are going up for sale again in our upcoming SILENT AUCTION to be held at Monaghan's on December 12th during the Ravens - Browns game.  Come check it out!

Holiday Vaccine Clinic

Sunday, November 28, 2021

12:00 noon to 4:00pm

Woodlawn Community Center located at 2131 Woodlawn Drive, Baltimore MD 21207

Ravens Roost 138 and Monaghan's Pub were proud to partner again with VALUE Baltimore, the Baltimore County Health Department and the State of Maryland to provide our second Vaccine Clinic of 2021.  The turnout was fantastic!

Overall, Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J vaccines and boosters were administered to 20 Baltimore County and Baltimore City adults and another 10 children ages 5-11 years.  Ten more people showed up a little too late to get shots this time.

A number of the younger attendees walked away with balloon animals or painted faces.  We've had something for everyone in the family:  Balloon Artists, Face Painting, Arts & Crafts, and FOOD!

Many thanks to our newest Roost member Rhonda and to Christine, Jean, Rick and Gary for helping out on this Sunday afternoon.

Toys For Tots Toy Drive
ENDED Dec 10th

Thanks to all those who helped Ravens Roost 138 give Santa a break this year.   He can't do everything, you know.

Thanks to your contributions, our Roost will help him deliver a message of hope this holiday season - and we didn't even need our own reindeer to do it.

With your help, Elf Lynn was able to deposit 8 full bags of new, unwrapped toys in the special shipping container scheduled for delivery to Santa's workshop at the North Pole.  You've got to get up pretty early in the morning if you're going to beat Elf Lynn, though.  As you can see from the scrolling photos on our Home Page, she was the FIRST one to drop off toys in the shipping pod.

Silent Auction
December 12, 2021

Yep!  It was a RE-DO.  A quiet one.

But now, even THIS second chance is over.  It's too late for you to get in on the deals if you didn't already do so on the 12th.  At the end of the game, most of the items up for auction were handed to their happy new owners.

Thanks again to all those who contributed items for our Charity Auctions as well as to those who bought the items.  The hard earned cash you used for your purchases will soon be passed along to some of the worthwhile charities on our Roost's approved charitable organization list.  That list can be found on our Charitable Donations page of this website.

Tornado Recovery Donation
December 17, 2021

Ravens Roost 138 made a donation to the Midwestern Tornado Fund today.  Anyone who has seen the video footage of the utter devastation left behind all the tornados that hit Kentucky and surrounding states this week knows exactly why.

We challenge ALL other Ravens Roosts to do the same.

End Of The Year GoVAX Clinic
December 19, 2021
12:00 Noon - 4:00PM

Woodlawn Community Center located at 2131 Woodlawn Drive, Baltimore MD 21207

Ravens Roost 138, Monaghan's Pub, VALUE Baltimore, and the State of Maryland teamed up to sponsor our last vaccine clinic of the year.

Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J vaccines and boosters were again administered to Baltimore City and County adults and children ages 5-11 years.

In all, 61 people took advantage of this opportunity.  That turnout was the best we've had to date, but we'd like to push on beyond even that for our next GoVAX Clinic already scheduled for January.
